Slomo: The Man Who Skated Right Off the Grid

I was sent this story this morning of "Slomo" and normally I don't watch these types of things but this morning I clicked - who knows, maybe it was the coffee?
I am so thankful I clicked the link to hear about who Slomo is and his story. It really resonated with me and inspired me greatly. I love stories like this and hope you do as well - thats why I thought I'd share it.
In the beginning of the video at the 2:09 mark Slomo says "What we are gonna do is let the music determine everything". When I heard that line my heart took a deep breath as thats what I have always done in my life. My life has had the greatest soundtrack.
Music affects me in a way that I always find extremely hard to express. It makes my lungs breathe deeper, my soul grow roots that plunge deep into the earth, my smile comes alive, the tears fall like much needed rain in a drought, the shivers down my spine like fingers of a lover. Even now I am struggling to express how music "determines everything" for me. It changed my life and changes my life everyday. I wake up - I put music on. I drive - I put music on. I dream - the music stays ON!
I loved later in the video when Slomo talks about the 93 yr old man and says "How do I get to be old like you?" and the 93 yr old man says "Do what you want to!" What a statment of power. I loved it wasn't in a selfish "me, me, me" sort of way but it was about truly living.
I don't want to live lost. I don't want to just survive. I want to truly live, to truly be free, to think of more than just material things. I don't want to wear out, I don't want to become an asshole. So I'm not gonna.
I'm going to choose life every day. Thats why I love what I do, what I am gifted at. I love making music. I love being creative. I love living. This video may not inspire you in the way it did me but I hope starting today you choose to live. To choose life over survival. Hell, what do you have to lose? If you've been surviving forever, why not try living?
Have a brilliant day.
